InDesign Level 2

The keywords for the level 2 InDesign course are Productivity and Quality. During this two-day course, you’ll be working with more complex documents and use functions like styles, variables and numbering schemes to set up an efficient and semi-automatic work-flow.

Based on real world print and online projects, like text books and business reports, you’ll learn to:

  • plan and complete sophisticated print and online publicationsImage of the selection tool (black arrow) in InDesign.
  • work with styles and set up an automated work-flow including contents created in programs Word and Excel
  • output PDFs suited for high quality printing or for distribution as interactive PDF e-books
  • discover and correct errors and mistakes before outputting files, ensuring trouble-free printing and online publishing.

Building on the contents of InDesign level 1, you’ll bring your InDesign skills to the next level utilizing essential productivity and quality enhancement features.

 

Course Format

This is a classroom based, instructor led course, taking place in Austin, Texas.

  • Please bring your own computer, BYOC!
  • The course is offered on a first come first serve basis, and space is limited!

What You Need To Bring

This is a BYOC class: Students must bring their own computer (Mac or PC) running the necessary software.

If you don’t own a Creative Cloud license, you can buy a subscription at Adobe.com, or download the free trial version. We will be more than glad to help you with download, installation and set-up instructions ahead of the course.

Also please remember to bring any extra quipment necessary to make your computer work, like power adaptor, your favorite mouse/pointing device, etc.

Pre-Requisites

This course is building on the contents of InDesign level 1 course, and we recommend taking the Level 1 course first, even if you have some experience with InDesign.

Schedule

This is a two day course, lasting from 9am to 4pm each day. We usually do a 1 hour lunch break at noon, and additional morning and afternoon breaks.

Objectives

  • Work with advanced paragraph and character styles, use functions like nested styles for automatic type styling
  • Set up a efficient work-flow based on import of Word and Excel files from Microsoft Office
  • Working with tables, and applying cell and table stylesImage of a typical frame in an InDesign layout.
  • Understand the book function and learn how to organize long documents
  • Create and use text variables for dynamic headers and footers, automatic captions, and more
  • Create footnotes, cross-references and table of contents
  • Understand the concept of indexes and bookmarks
  • Use drawing tools and apply visual effects. Use object styles for consistent styling of frames.
  • Image of the Color Wheel.Preview color separations and understand how transparency effects may affect the quality of the finished project
  • Create customized preflight profiles for live error checking
  • Customize the user interface and access advanced features hidden in panels and dialogue boxes
